Doctors & Staff

Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Hampton Eyecare Associates, PLLC the leading provider of vision care products and services in Hampton.

Dr. David M. Hartenstein

Dr. David was born in Bloomville, Ohio, and moved to Hampton with his wife, Dr. Sally, in 1983. He did his undergraduate studies and attained his Doctor of Optometry degree at The Ohio State University in 1982. Dr. David is certified and licensed in the treatment and management of ocular disease. He enjoys practicing family optometry and strives to educate his patients regarding their vision and eye health by providing solutions and preventative care throughout their lives.

Dr. David is a member of the American Optometric Association and the New Hampshire Optometric Association. He has served as president of the NHOA and has also served 2 terms on the NH State Board of Optometrists. He received the New Hampshire Optometrist of the Year award in 1997.

In our community, Dr. David is a multiple past president of the Hampton Area Lions Club and is currently the longest active member of the club. He enjoyed coaching youth sports and was a past president and board member of the Hampton Youth Association.

Dr. David enjoys his free time spent with his growing family, playing as much golf as he can squeeze in, and following sports… especially his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.

Dr. Sally A. Hartenstein

Dr. Sally (Shackleton) Hartenstein was born and raised in Salem, New Hampshire. She attended The Ohio State University and graduated from its College of Optometry in 1983. While at OSU she was a 4-year member of the Varsity Field Hockey team. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. She and her husband David have lived in Hampton Falls since 1986.

Drs. Sally and David established their own practice, Drs. Hartenstein & Hartenstein, in Hampton in 1983. They joined their practice with Dr. Raymond Alie to form Hampton Eyecare Associates, PLLC in 1986 in their present location. Dr. Sally practices primary care optometry with a special interest in contact lenses. She is certified and licensed in the state of New Hampshire in the treatment and management of eye disease and glaucoma.

She truly appreciates the relationships she has developed with her long-time loyal patients and takes great pleasure in helping them see their best while looking their best!

When not at work, Dr. Sally enjoys walking, gardening, decorating (home and office!), and being an active “Grammy” to 3 young grandchildren (Wynne, Billie, Bowen), with another coming in 2024!

Dr. Craig N Hartenstein

Dr. Craig Hartenstein was born and raised here in the Seacoast area where he attended Lincoln Akerman School and Winnacunnet High School. He then received his BS in Biology from Wake Forest University in North Carolina, and his Doctorate of Optometry (O.D.) at the New England College of Optometry in Boston.

He spent his childhood in and around Hampton Eyecare Associates, PLLC and is so happy to now be working at the family business. When Dr. Craig isn’t taking care of patients at the office, he can be found on the golf course, hanging out with his family (daughter Billie, pup Howie, and future kiddo on the way), and cheering on his favorite Boston area sports teams. He looks forward to continuing to serve his family and friends in this community that he has always called home

Dr. Presley D. Hartenstein

Dr. Presley D. Hartenstein is a Southern transplant originally from Huntsville, AL where her family still resides. She graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a BS in Biology and then went on to attend New England College of Optometry in Boston. During her time at NECO she developed a special interest in Pediatric Optometry and fell in love with the seasons and sights of New England.

When Dr. Presley is away from the office, she enjoys spending time with her family (her daughter Billie, her fur born Howie, and yes even Dr. Craig), teaching Pure Barre, reading, and rooting for the Vols during college football season. She is so thrilled to call the Seacoast her new home and looks forward to continuing to establish herself as a part of this wonderful community.
